Wildlifepopulation management is a tool for controlling unwanted wildlife or conservingendangered species in the ecosystem. Currently, African Swine Fever (ASF) hasspread into wild boar population, and therefore, the public consider them as amajor thread to pig farms. Fencing, culling, and carcass searching have been adoptedfor management of the disease in wild boar based on population management strategies.
Also, most of large and medium sized mammals in Korea are already extirpated orhighly threatened. A variety of restoration or conservation techniques have beenapplied for them. Introduced nutria have spread into freshwater system andracoon and muskrat could be the next threats.
This lab hasworked for populations of various wild mammals. Currently, wild boar populationto understand their population dynamics through a combination of classic fieldsurvey and genomic approaches. Also, the landscape genetics of striped field mouse,the main vector of Hantavirus has studied.
